How QR codes work
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores data in a grid of black and white squares. When scanned with a phone camera, the encoded data triggers an action: opening a URL, connecting to WiFi, saving a contact, or displaying text.
Different data types use standardized formats. WiFi QR codes use the WIFI:T:WPA;S:network;P:password;; format. Contact cards use vCard 3.0. Email links use mailto: URIs. These formats are recognized by all modern smartphone cameras.
The QR codes generated here use error correction level M, which can recover up to 15% of damaged data. They are generated entirely in your browser and are never sent to a server.
