What is a GS1 Digital Link QR code?
A GS1 Digital Link QR code encodes a standardized URI that contains your product's GTIN (Global Trade Item Number). Unlike a generic QR code that points to any URL, a Digital Link QR code follows the GS1 URI structure: https://resolver.example/01/{GTIN}
This format is what the Sunrise 2027 initiative is built around. Sunrise 2027 is the date by which retail point-of-sale systems are expected to be able to accept 2D barcodes alongside traditional UPC/EAN barcodes. It is an industry milestone coordinated by GS1, not a regulation: no law requires a QR code on your product, and traditional barcodes keep working. What 2027 actually means.
